Last weekend I went to NYC to cheer on my friend Yvette who was running in the marathon, she finished in a respectable time of 4 hours 50 mins. The day before the race the three Irish girls went out for a slap up meal!

Meanwhile back in Boston Jack not only polished off a ton of Halloween candy he was also treated to an ice-cream lunch by Daddy! Bah!

Last night Captain Jack ventured out for his first real Halloween Trick or Treating. The neighbors were well prepared and Jack spent the evening telling everyone “this is amazing!”. Now to ration the candy and avoid days of sugar rushes.

Jack and his pals hanging out - speaking, hearing and seeing no evil in Salem during Halloween

It may have been a cold and blowy day out, but that didn’t stop the three of us heading into Cambridge to Harvard Sq to watch the Head Of The Charles Regatta this past weekend. There were plenty of activities, promotions and food vendors lined along the banks of the Charles River to keep everyone occupied. As for the rowers, getting a close view of them from the bridges made us glad to be on dry land as they looked bitterly cold and wet.

It wouldn’t be Halloween without a trip up to Salem to check out the haunted houses and witch burnings. October is always a scary month! Woohooohooo…

Tonight being the end of the week Scott decided (was prompted) into taking his family out to a classy joint for dinner. We ended up in the local sit-in chip shop. As we were eating our meal we noticed some more classy customers entering the establishment, one of the individuals had a huge orange Mohican hairstyle. When Jack saw her he stood up on the seat, pointed right at her and shouted at the top of his voice “COCK-AHH-DOODLE-DOOOOOOO!!!!!!” ……….sweet god let the ground swallow us up right now!

This past week the annual Topsfield Fair has been underway in, err, Topsfield MA. On Sunday we spent the day looking at and petting animals of all sorts, perusing plants and vegetables, eating apple crumble and ice cream and doing our best to ware Jack out on the theme park rides. Needless to say we had a great day and were all in bed early!

Just down the road from us is Verrill Farm, a family owned and run produce farm. At 5pm yesterday a spark in the ceiling of the store caused an electrical fire which resulted in the main farm building burning to the ground.

A favorite destination for my parents, Verrill Farm is considered local to everyone in our area for fresh fruit, vegetables, prepared meals and plants. At this time of the year they are gearing up for end of summer festivities to run throughout the fall before the farm closes finally for the winter.
Just two weeks ago we took Jack there for hayrides and pony rides. We’re devastated by the fire and loss of the building - which was opened in 1918. But, hopefully the family will choose to rebuild with a greater farm shop presence for next year.
